FAQ

It is perfectly normal to have questions regarding the topic of Osteopathy. Below I have tried my best to answer the most commonly asked questions I get from my patients. If you need any further information please get in touch.

  • What is Osteopathy?
Please watch the short video featured below by the Institute of Osteopathy. The video is titled 'Who are Osteopaths?' and covers the topic of Osteopathy well.
  • Does Osteopathy hurt?
During the examination you will be asked to perform some movements that may reproduce your pain. You will be guided through this and told to stop if pain occurs. The treatment uses a variety of soft tissue and manipulation techniques that are gentle and should be painless. Some techniques can be a little uncomfortable, but this is for a brief few seconds and you should feel relief shortly after. You will be asked how you are feeling throughout and can refuse any part of the treatment if you are not comfortable with it. Your osteopath will explain everything along the way, feel free to ask any questions. Your osteopath will make sure you are ok with all parts of the consultation and treatment. You may feel some discomfort or an increase in pain for 48 hours after treatment, and this is normal but if you are concerned contact your osteopath. Please read the side effect information and consent forms thoroughly.
